About
Jack of all trades, master of none. Master what the trades are made of.
The Muralist was established in 2000 after Matheu earned his BFA with distinction, but his first public design was a mural proposal in 1996 for the Joseph Filippi Winery in Rancho Cucamonga. Painted with classmate Stephan Elliot, the 10′ x 140′ mural is a historical land mark depicting the process of wine making. It retains its integrity and color today.
For the next ten years, Matheu painted murals in San Francisco, Nappa Valley, throughout Southern California and in Kamloops B.C. and showed his paintings in Claremont and Los Angeles. He trained in Apache Tlish Dyan medicine with Lynda and Maria Yraceburu for eight years before earning his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011. He led and developed the Custom Fabrication and paint departments for the Peggy Notebaert Nature Musem, creating award winning exhibits, and Moss Inc., producing custom environments across the globe.
